Original Fake Tokyo
December 1st, 2006
Here a look at the latest creation by the Tokyo architects office - Wonderwall. They designed the Original Fake store, which is the flagship store of the creations of the american artist Kaws, that we have already previously reported on. The store is split in black and white. The white part carries the clothing and the black part carries the famous designer toys and other accessories. The store is a collaboration between Kaws and the toy manufacturer Medicom. A must visit on your next Tokyo trip.

Contactboxen
November 21st, 2006
Here a really practical new concept from Sweden that we came across - the Contactboxen.
“The Contactbox collects and hides cords and chargers, leaving your charger easy to find and with no more tangeled messy cords. The box also protects curious small fingers and house pets from potentially dangerous electrical outlets and cables…Inside the Contactabox is a power board with six outlets, specially constructed so as to provide room for larger transformers and plugs. The lengths of cord are hidden inside, leaving only the cord from the box to the wall point visible.”
A very interesting and useful addition to the household. With the Contactbox you charge your iPod and Cellphone and you also always know where you placed it!

Soft Spot Table
November 7th, 2006
Today we came across this really interesting wooden bench designed by Stephen Reed. At first it looks like a nice looking simple wooden bench, but when you look close it has an interesting feature. A certain part of it consists of wood tile connected by elastic cords. The surface bows to provide cushioning seating. Thus this great mechanism actually turns this bench into a sophisticated seating option. Great idea and execution!

Okaeri Hanger
October 31st, 2006
Here a new hanger that we came across by Okaeri. This one still fulfills its purpose, but at the same time when not being used, it becomes an art object. Its not space efficient, but that loss one can take for the new Okaeri Hanger. Let’s see if we see them soon in any restaurants, bars or homes around us.

Ray is a table lamp that for once uses sunglasses the other way around. Switched off the entire lamp is covered in chrome and when turned on the glasses become see-through and let just the right amount of light through! The lamp has been designed by Element Design.

Fake Riches Cabinet
October 27th, 2006
This great new Fake Riches Cabinet is the creation of designer Helen Waites. It allows your dishes to look like artwork when not in use, but makes simple white plates suddenly look exciting. The rack consists of a back rack and an overlying glass face, which is decorated with a blue pattern of the type seen on antique plates. When you place a white plate behind the pattern, they pop out and it gives the impression of you really having antique plates. Great idea. Via MocoLoco.

Drop Dead Rug
October 16th, 2006
We just came across this rug over at Coolhunting - the Drop Dead Rug by British designer Alex Carpenter.
The carpet “was such a hit at the London Design Festival in 2005 that Alex will take it into production soon. Mimicking the shape “of an unfortunate soul which may have come to pass right there on your living room floor with their silhouette remaining as evidence,” the throw will be a dark red felt with a light grey band running around the edge to depict the chalk line. Available in a selection of poses for about £150, Alex says he’s currently considering incorporating the cause of death.”
The designer is now already excepting orders via Udderstuff.
